Usage Note

Bußfertigkeit is primarily a religious term (Christian theology) for the disposition to acknowledge sin and seek atonement. In secular use it appears ironically or when genuine contrition is emphasised. Echte Bußfertigkeit zeigen is a liturgical phrase.
