Usage Note
Cousin is the male cousin. Pronounced with a French nasal -n (koo-ZAN), not like English 'cousin'. Some regional variants spell it Vetter, which is a more old-fashioned synonym still found in southern German dialects.
Examples
"Ihr Cousin und sie sind fast gleichaltrig und verstehen sich gut."
Natural Translation
Her cousin and she are almost the same age and get on well.
Literal Translation
Her cousin and she are almost same-aged and understand themselves well.
