Usage Note
Jugendzeit spans roughly the teenage years and early adulthood — the period of coming-of-age. It differs from Jugend in that it emphasises the time-span rather than the abstract concept of youth.

Natural Translation
In his youth he spent every summer at his grandfather's in the countryside.
Literal Translation
In his youth-time spent he every summer at the grandfather in the country.
