Moment

moment

noun mo-MENT Less Common

Origin: from Latin momentum

Usage Note

Moment is another gender trap: der Moment (masculine) is an instant in time, while das Moment (neuter) is a technical 'factor' or physics 'moment'. Everyday speech uses the masculine, as in Moment mal! ('hang on a sec!'). Plural Momente.

Examples

"Einen Moment bitte, ich komme gleich."

Natural Translation

One moment please, I'm coming right away.

Literal Translation

One moment please, I come right-away.
