Usage Note
Polizei is grammatically singular and feminine (die Polizei) even though it refers to the whole force, so it takes a singular verb. A single officer is a Polizist (m) or Polizistin (f). Note the final stress: po-li-TSY.
Examples

Natural Translation
The police are looking for the culprit.
