Usage Note
Wecker is the traditional bedside alarm clock, still widely used alongside phone alarms. The phrase den Wecker stellen (to set the alarm) is used even when referring to a phone.

Natural Translation
He set the alarm for half past six and went to sleep.
Literal Translation
He placed the alarm-clock at half-seven and laid himself to-sleep.
