Usage Note

darum most often means 'that's why' and answers a warum? question, frequently strengthened to darum eben or eben darum. As a pronominal adverb it also means 'around it' or 'about it', as in sich darum kümmern ('to take care of it').

"Es regnet, darum bleibe ich zu Hause."

Natural Translation

It's raining, so I'm staying home.

Literal Translation

It rains, therefore stay I at home.
