Usage Note

Nicht wahr is a tag question seeking confirmation, equivalent to English 'isn't it?', 'right?', 'don't you agree?'. It is slightly more formal than oder? and can be attached to almost any statement: Das war ein schönes Konzert, nicht wahr? Common in polite or careful speech; also used rhetorically without expecting a reply.
