Usage Note

verhaften means to arrest and is the active counterpart of in Haft (in custody) and Haftbefehl (arrest warrant). The participle verhaftet doubles as an adjective: einer Idee verhaftet sein means to be wedded to an idea. The prefix ver- is inseparable.
