Usage Note

Ahorn is masculine (der Ahorn). Maples are widespread in Central European mixed forests; the sycamore (Bergahorn) is especially common in mountain regions. The distinctive winged seeds (Ahornfrüchte, also called Hubschrauber by children) spin as they fall.
