Usage Note

Blaubeere is used regionally for both the wild European bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus, also Heidelbeere) and the cultivated American blueberry. In northern Germany Blaubeere is the common term, while Heidelbeere dominates in the south. The wild variety stains fingers and tongue blue-black.
