Usage Note

Erdkröte (Bufo bufo) is Germany's most common and widespread toad. Every spring, large numbers migrate to their breeding ponds; volunteer 'Krötenzäune' (toad fences) are erected along roads to prevent casualties. Distinct from Frosch (frog) by its dry, warty skin.
