Usage Note

Mäander refers to the sinuous bends of a river as it winds across a flat valley floor, and by extension to any ornamental meander pattern (Mäandermuster). In geography class it is a standard term; in ecology, river Renaturierung (restoration) often aims to re-create natural meanders removed by 20th-century channelisation.
