Pflasterer

paver, street paver

noun PFLAS-ter-er Rare

Usage Note

Pflasterer lays cobblestones, pavement slabs, and kerbstones in roads, footpaths, and public squares. The skilled trade (Pflasterer und Steinsetzer) requires a three-year apprenticeship; traditional granite or basalt sett paving (Kopfsteinpflaster) is still common in German historic city centres.

Examples

Natural Translation

The paver relaid the historic cobblestones in the old town quarter.

Literal Translation

The paver set the historic cobblestones in-the old-town-quarter again in.
