Usage Note

Röteln is a viral disease causing a pink rash, mild fever, and swollen lymph nodes. Dangerous during pregnancy (Rötelninfektion in der Schwangerschaft) as it can damage the unborn child; the MMR vaccine protects against it. Used almost exclusively in the plural.
