Rippenbruch is a fracture of one or more ribs, usually caused by direct trauma. Breathing is painful, and complications include Pneumonie (pneumonia) from shallow breathing. Most fractures heal without surgery; pain management allows deeper breathing. Multiple rib fractures are called Rippenserienfraktur.
