Usage Note
Sumpf (der Sumpf, plural Sümpfe) refers to a waterlogged, boggy area less acidic than a Moor; used both literally for wetland habitats and figuratively (im Sumpf der Korruption, 'in the swamp of corruption'). Sumpfpflanzen (marsh plants) such as Schilfrohr are typical flora.
