Usage Note
Schiffskapitän is the master of a merchant or passenger ship, responsible for the vessel, cargo, and crew. Requires a Kapitänspatent (master mariner's licence). Feminine: Schiffskapitänin. On inland waterways the shorter term Kapitän or Schiffsführer is used.
