Umsatzsteuer is the German term for the turnover tax charged on sales at each stage of production, equivalent to VAT. The standard rate is 19%; reduced rate 7% (Mehrwertsteuer is the everyday synonym). Businesses report it in the Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung.
