Usage Note

Versetzung in German schools means the official decision to promote a pupil to the next class year. If a pupil's grades are insufficient, Versetzung may be denied (nicht versetzt werden), requiring them to repeat the year. It is decided at the end of each school year by the Klassenkonferenz.
