Usage Note

Dahingegen is a formal adverb used to draw a sharp contrast with the preceding statement, synonymous with hingegen or demgegenüber. It is common in academic and journalistic writing. It does NOT send the verb to the end of its clause.

"Die erste Gruppe zeigte Verbesserungen; die zweite Gruppe dahingegen stagnierte."

Natural Translation

The first group showed improvements; the second group, on the other hand, stagnated.

Literal Translation

The first group showed improvements; the second group on-the-other-hand stagnated.
