er

he

pronoun AIR Common

Also means

it

Usage Note

er is the masculine third-person subject pronoun, but because German gender is grammatical it also means 'it' for any der-noun, so a table (der Tisch) is er. Its accusative is ihn and dative ihm. Don't assume er refers to a male person.
