halten is a strong verb (hielt, gehalten) meaning to hold, but also 'to stop' for vehicles and 'to give' a speech (einen Vortrag halten). The phrase halten von expresses an opinion: Was hältst du davon? ('What do you think of it?'). Reflexive sich halten means to keep or last.
