Usage Note
Scharenweise (from Schar, flock/crowd) describes people or animals moving or appearing in large crowds. Die Touristen kamen scharenweise — the tourists came in droves. It is slightly more vivid and colourful than massenweise, emphasising the crowd-like quality.
