spanisch

Spanish

adjective SHPAH-nish Less Common

Usage Note

spanisch is lower-case as an adjective (spanisches Essen), but the language and nationality nouns Spanisch and Spanier are capitalised. A lovely idiom is das kommt mir spanisch vor ('that seems odd/fishy to me'). Don't confuse with the noun Spanier ('Spaniard').

Examples

"Sie kocht gern spanisches Essen."

Natural Translation

She likes cooking Spanish food.

Literal Translation

She cooks gladly Spanish food.
