Usage Note
Amtseid is the solemn oath sworn upon taking an official position, committing the officeholder to uphold the constitution and serve the public. In Germany the chancellor, ministers, and the Federal President all swear a prescribed Amtseid (or give a non-religious affirmation). Breaking it is a serious matter.
