Usage Note
Barmherzigkeit is mercy or compassion, a central religious virtue, from barmherzig (merciful). It appears in die Werke der Barmherzigkeit (the works of mercy) and in der barmherzige Samariter (the Good Samaritan). Stronger and more solemn than ordinary Mitleid (pity).
