Usage Note

Beruhigungsmittel are drugs used to reduce anxiety and agitation. The most commonly prescribed class is benzodiazepines (e.g. Diazepam). They carry a risk of dependence and are generally prescribed only for short-term use. Colloquially people say Beruhigungstablette for a single pill.
