Usage Note
Dammweg is a path or track running along the top of an earthen embankment (Damm), whether a river levee, railway embankment, or pond dam. Many German cities have scenic Dammwege along rivers that are popular with cyclists and joggers.

Natural Translation
We walked along the embankment path by the Rhine to the next village.
Literal Translation
We walked the embankment-path along the Rhine to the next village.
