Gänseblümchen

daisy

noun GEN-ze-blue-mhen Rare

Usage Note

Gänseblümchen (Bellis perennis) — literally 'little goose flower' — is the common lawn daisy. Despite being considered a weed by some gardeners, it is edible and used in salads. Children traditionally chain them into flower crowns (Blumenkränze). The German name reflects that geese graze on them.

Examples

"Die Kinder pflückten Gänseblümchen auf der Wiese und flochten daraus Kränze."

Natural Translation

The children picked daisies from the meadow and wove them into garlands.
