Usage Note
Geschworene denotes a sworn lay juror, derived from schwoeren (to swear). It is an adjectival noun, so it inflects: der Geschworene, die Geschworenen. The collective body is the Geschworenengericht. Note that Germany rarely uses pure juries; Schoeffen (lay judges) are more typical.
