Usage Note
Haftbefehl is an arrest warrant, compounding Haft (custody) and Befehl (order). A judge issues it: einen Haftbefehl erlassen. A European arrest warrant is a Europaeischer Haftbefehl. When executed, the person is taken into Untersuchungshaft (remand).
