Usage Note

Sparkonto is the classic savings account that earns interest, distinct from the everyday Girokonto (current account). The plural is irregular: Sparkonten. Germans famously value saving, so you also meet Sparbuch (passbook) and Sparrate (savings instalment) in the same field.
