Usage Note
Zeitnot describes a situation of having too little time to accomplish something. Very common in chess, where a player in Zeitnot is at risk of losing on time, but also widely used in everyday life: unter Zeitnot stehen or in Zeitnot geraten.

Natural Translation
Due to time pressure, he could not finish writing the last part of the essay.
Literal Translation
Because of time-need, he could not finish-write the last part of the essay.
