faseln

to babble, to ramble incoherently

verb FAH-zeln Rare

Usage Note

faseln describes talking at length without coherence — rambling or jabbering. 'Was faselst du da?' (What are you babbling about?). It is dismissive and implies the speech is both confusing and boring. Stronger than plappern in suggesting lack of sense.

Examples

"Der betrunkene Gast faselte stundenlang Unsinn, ohne dass jemand zuhörte."

Natural Translation

The drunk guest rambled on with nonsense for hours without anyone listening.

Literal Translation

The drunk guest babbled hours-long nonsense, without that someone listened.
