Usage Note

fliegen is a strong verb, vowel-changing through flog and geflogen, and it usually takes sein in the perfect: Ich bin geflogen. Colloquially durchfallen aside, fliegen can also mean to get kicked out, as in Er ist von der Schule geflogen. The fly insect is the related noun Fliege.
