Usage Note

Mitteilen is a neutral, slightly formal verb for passing on information; jemandem etwas mitteilen means to let someone know something. More formal than sagen but less bureaucratic than benachrichtigen.

"Er teilte ihr mit, dass das Meeting verschoben wurde."

Natural Translation

He informed her that the meeting had been postponed.

Literal Translation

He communicated to her that the meeting had been shifted.
