nach

after

preposition NAHKH Common

Also means

to

Usage Note

nach takes the dative and means 'after' in time but 'to' for cities and countries without an article (nach Berlin, nach Hause). Placed after a noun it can mean 'according to', as in meiner Meinung nach ('in my opinion'). For destinations with an article you'd use zu or in instead.

Examples

"Wir fahren nach Berlin."

Natural Translation

We are travelling to Berlin.

Literal Translation

We travel to Berlin.
