ab

from

preposition AP Common

Also means

off

Usage Note

ab as a preposition takes the dative and means 'from ... onwards' in time or place (ab Montag, 'from Monday'). As a hugely productive separable prefix ab- it adds the sense of 'away/off', as in abfahren ('to depart') or abnehmen ('to lose weight'). Alone as an adverb it means 'off/away'.

From Monday the train leaves earlier.

Literal Translation
