Usage Note

nachdem is a subordinating conjunction meaning 'after', so it sends the verb to the end of its clause: Nachdem wir gegessen hatten, gingen wir. In je nachdem it means 'depending on'. Don't confuse it with the adverb danach.

Natural Translation

After he arrived, we began.

Literal Translation

After he came, began we.
