Also means
to talk nonsense
Usage Note
quatschen is highly colloquial for relaxed chatting or, dismissively, for talking nonsense. 'Wir haben lange gequatscht' (We chatted for a long time). 'Quatch nicht!' (Don't talk rubbish!) shows its pejorative side. A versatile, very informal verb common in everyday German.
Examples
"Wir haben nach der Arbeit noch stundenlang auf der Bank gequatscht."
Natural Translation
We chatted for hours on the bench after work.
Literal Translation
We have after the work still hours-long on the bench chatted.
