Usage Note

schlafen is a strong verb (schläft, schlief, geschlafen) with a vowel change in the present. The separable einschlafen means 'to fall asleep' and verschlafen 'to oversleep'; mit jemandem schlafen is the euphemism 'to sleep with someone'.
