Usage Note

Säuerlich describes a mild sourness — less intense than sauer (sour). Säuerlicher Geschmack, säuerlicher Geruch. Applied to facial expressions, ein säuerliches Gesicht means a sour, displeased expression. Both uses are equally common and natural.
