wollen

want

verb VOL-len Common

Also means

intend to

Usage Note

wollen is a modal: it sends a second verb to the clause-end as a bare infinitive (Ich will gehen). Its present is irregular (ich will, not wolle), and it can also report a dubious claim, as in Er will nichts gesehen haben ('He claims to have seen nothing').

Examples

"Ich will nach Hause gehen."

Natural Translation

I want to go home.

Literal Translation

I want to home go.
