Usage Note
zuzugeben is the zu-infinitive of the separable verb zugeben (admit, concede): 'er gibt zu', past participle zugegeben. The participle zugegeben also works alone as 'admittedly', e.g. Das ist, zugegeben, schwierig.

Literal Translation
It fell him hard, his mistake to-admit.
