Usage Note
Bürgerrechte are the rights belonging specifically to citizens of a state, such as the right to vote and stand for election. They are distinct from Grundrechte (fundamental rights), which apply to all persons. The term also appears in historical and comparative contexts (Bürgerrechtsbewegung = civil rights movement).
