Fichte is feminine (die Fichte). The Norway spruce is the most commercially planted tree in German forestry; it is also the classic Christmas tree (Weihnachtsbaum). Large Fichtenmonokulturen (spruce monocultures) are vulnerable to bark beetle (Borkenkäfer) infestation.
