noun KRAUT Rare

Also means

cabbage (colloquial)

Usage Note

Kraut is a broad term: in botany it means a non-woody plant (Heilkräuter = medicinal herbs); in daily speech it often means cabbage or an unwanted weed (Unkraut). The dismissive phrase dagegen ist kein Kraut gewachsen — 'there's no herb grown against it' — means a problem is unsolvable.
