Muskat

nutmeg

noun mus-KAHT Rare

Usage Note

Muskat (short for Muskatnuss) is a classic German baking and cooking spice grated freshly over Béchamel, Kartoffelpüree, and Spinat. Pre-ground nutmeg loses flavour quickly; a whole Muskatnuss with a fine grater (Muskatreibe) is standard in German home kitchens.

Examples

"Dem Kartoffelpüree gibt etwas frisch geriebener Muskat eine wunderbar warme Note."

Natural Translation
