Usage Note

Pilz covers both edible mushrooms and fungi in general. Pilze sammeln (mushroom foraging) is a popular German autumn pastime. Key species include Steinpilz (porcini), Pfifferling (chanterelle), and the deadly Knollenblätterpilz (death cap). Also used for mould (Schimmelpilz) and athlete's foot (Fußpilz).
